Level 1 Six Count Lindy Hop

Sign up for the Swing Dance Project, Jersey Shore Swing's 4 week Six Count Lindy Hop class, the original swing dance. This course is intended for new dancers, experienced dancers who are new to Lindy Hop and experienced Lindy Hoppers who wish to focus on fundamentals.

THIS CLASS IS A PREREQUISITE TO LEVEL 2 CLASSES, REGARDLESS OF EXPERIENCE.

THIS CLASS IS PROGRESSIVE. If you cannot attend the first class, it is best to wait for the next class offering or arrange for a private lesson prior to the 2nd class.

LEARN THE ORIGINAL SWING DANCE FROM THE GROUND UP

Session 1 - What is Lindy Hop?

The first session introduces the concepts that distinguish Lindy Hop from other partner dances. A rhythm dance at its core, you will learn how to move yourself and your partner across the floor with rhythm.

Session 2 - Classic Shapes

This session will explore the most common steps you will encounter on the dance floor.

Session 3 - Classic with a Twist

This class will look at variations of classic shapes with an eye towards lead and follow technique.

Session 4 - Frankie's Sixes

Named after the Lindy Hop icon Frankie Manning (see brief history of Lindy Hop), Frankie's Sixes a fun sequence of six count shapes that Lindy Hoppers cut their teeth on.

What to Expect

It is not necessary to bring a partner.

Wear comfortable low heeled, non-scuff shoes; preferably sneakers.
